This volume is the outcome of a Minor Research Project entitled 'Continuity and Change of the Traditional Fishing Communities in the Coastal Areas of Purba Medinipur District: An Anthropological Study' under the financial help of University Grants Commission. In the present volume, the author tries to concentrate on the existing processes of continuity and change of the traditional fishing communities of Purba Medinipur coast. The traditional fishermen of the Purba Medinipur coast are also influenced to some extent by these changing situations. Several factors are responsible for that change. To realize these complexities and incoming changes of coastal and marine livelihoods in various situations, particularly in the coastal areas of Purba Medinipur District, where there are some significant differences is observed in the livelihood conditions and other social-cultural features from time to time as well as from area to area, the book will give a firsthand glimpse. Suman Kalyan Samanta, M.Sc., M.Phil, Ph.D., Presently is working as the Assistant Professor and Head, Dept. of Anthropology & Coordinator, PG Dept. of Social Work of Mahishadal Girls’ College, Purba Medinipur, West Bengal. He already completed a Minor Research Project on the 'Continuity and Change of the Traditional Fishing Communities in the Coastal Areas of Purba Medinipur District: An Anthropological Study' under the financial help from University Grants Commission. He is the author of one edited volume. He has the number of research articles published in the different scientific journals and books.
